2010 William Downie Gippsland
Rich cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry and poached plum with clove, nutmeg and some floral notes. Dense and concentrated. The palate shows cigar box and forest floor with more dark fruits. Fine but present tannin. Some oak showing at this early stage. Textured and long. Drink 2012 – 2020
2010 William Downie Mornington Peninsula
Complex Pinot nose. Raspberry, cranberry and blood plums with violets, lavender and undergrowth. Very precise and detailed. Distinctly Mornington Peninsula. The palate has sweet red fruits and some subtle oak derived spice. Textured, fine and long with crisp, noticeable acidity. Very approachable but built for the long haul. Drink 2012 – 2025.
2010 William Downie Yarra Valley
Very aromatic, lifted and intensely perfumed with violets, rose petal, lavender and licorice as well as musk, blackcurrant and loganberry. A core of granite derived minerality adds definition and precision. The palate is richly textured, long and fine. A distinctive wine with a long future. Drink 2012 – 2025
2009 King Valley – Petit Manseng – SOLD OUT
Aromas of pear, apple, lime and caramelised pineapple. The palate shows honeydew melon, kiwi and toasted marshmallow with subtle notes of curry leaf and lemon verbena. The wine is rich and powerful yet structured and refreshing. Not obviously sweet, the acidity and tannin provide definition and balance. A wine to follow over many years. Works well with Asian food or lighter fruit based desserts for now.
2009 Mornington Peninsula – SOLD OUT
The nose shows lifted, ripe Pinot fruit – cranberry, raspberry and blackberry with underlying rosehip and violet. The palate is textured and round with red fruits as well as quince, cardamom, mace and clove. It is structured and defined but an approachable young wine by our standards.
